Darrell Stallcup was born in Saigon, Vietnam during the Vietnam War, where his father met his mother. After the war, Darrell’s family relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he was raised and spent his childhood growing up with strong family values, discipline, and determination. From an early age, Darrell dedicated himself to martial arts, training consistently throughout his youth and developing the work ethic and focus that would later shape his professional career.
At the age of 16, Darrell discovered dance and quickly realized it was something he wanted to pursue professionally. Driven by passion and ambition, he moved to Los Angeles in 1997 to chase his dreams in the entertainment industry. Just two weeks after arriving in LA, Darrell was encouraged by his brother to audition for a television show seeking martial artists for stunt work. Thanks to his lifelong martial arts background, he booked the job almost immediately, launching a successful stunt career that led to appearances and work in numerous television shows including Big Bad Beetleborgs, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and many films.
While continuing his stunt work, Darrell simultaneously pursued dance opportunities and quickly began building a career in both industries side by side. In 1998, he landed a 10-month dance contract performing in a magician’s show, which became a life-changing experience because it was there that he met Julie Kay, who was performing in a competing magic show in the same city. The two began dating, and Darrell continued traveling professionally for dance work while also securing contracts in Las Vegas and Atlantic City before eventually returning to Los Angeles.
After moving back to LA in 1999, Darrell and Julie Kay began teaching and managing a dance studio together. Their shared passion for dance education, performance, and mentorship eventually led them to marriage. In 2006, they welcomed their first child and opened their own studio, Revolution Dance Center. Over the next 15 years, Darrell and Julie Kay built “RDC” into one of the most respected and successful dance studios in the area, growing to approximately 1,300 students at its peak.
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced shutdowns across the country in 2020, Darrell and Julie Kay faced one of the most difficult seasons of their careers. After months of navigating the challenges brought on by the pandemic, they made the decision to sell Revolution Dance Center and relocate to Arkansas, Julie Kay’s home state, where they currently reside.
In 2021, with a fresh vision and a new beginning, Darrell and Julie Kay founded the Julie Kay Mastermind Company. Together, they now dedicate their experience, leadership, and passion to helping dance studio owners and dance teachers across the country grow stronger businesses, create better classroom experiences, and build thriving dance communities through mentorship, curriculum development, and educational programs.
